Jaider Lozano, a surf photographer from Aviles, Spain, at a young age, he has already made his mark on the surf photography work.

His photography , we think, is very different from others in the industry, it is beautiful, capturing the raw essence of the landscape that surrounds him and here at Blue Rapture, when we gaze at his images we get a calming, peaceful feeling.

What we like best is that very often you can’t see who exactly the surfers he captures are, there are no professional surfers or exotic destinations in his photos. His portfolio is simply a portrait of where he lives and surfs. Therefore these people could be anyone, allowing you to make up your own story for each image, and go wild with your imagination.

Q&A with Jaider Lozano

Where were you born and raised?

I was born and raised in Avilés, a small city in a region called Asturias, in the north of Spain.

What inspires you to do what you do and why do you do it?

The sea itself.

Where did your journey as an artist begin?

I started surfing in 2006, when I was 21 years old.  These days, my father had just bought a Canon Camera and I started to bring the camera to the beach.

How did you eventually get you where you are today?

Work, work and work again.  Do what I love, and do it often.

What would you consider to be unique about your work compared to similar photographers, artists or designers?

I don’t have the feeling that I do things differently to others. I only try to communicate my idea about surfing, and my passion for the beautiful region where I live, for the ocean and for nature in general.

What do you consider to be your favourite project to date?

The whole project of trying to make a living from what I love: photography.

What tools or techniques do you use to produce your work?

Canon cameras and lenses. And Adobe for post processing. Keep it simple 🙂

Fun Facts

Favourite Surfer: I admire a lot of local surfers, of my city. Very talented people, who have to go work, take care of their children, and still have time to go to the beach to surfing. Ignacio Solis, Chuck, Vity, Gelito… I have to thank them for one of my favourite photos of this year.

Favourite Surf Spot: San Juan, asturias.  Very mediocre about the waves, but good ambient in the water.

Favourite thing to do to relax: Take the dog out for a walk to the beach 🙂
